High Wide & Heavy Outfitters is an archery only whitetail hunting outfit located about an hour northeast of Dallas – Ft. Worth. Nestled near the small town of Whitewright, TX, we are a family owned and operated hunting destination who has been guiding hunts for over a decade. Our preserve offers trophy, management and meat hunts for hunters of all ages.
We understand the need for quality hunts, which is why we started our business over fifteen years ago. We live and breathe bowhunting and believe that it is much more than just a harvest, it’s a passion. There is something about breathing the same air and fooling a mature buck sometimes only 15 yards away. The right wind, the right situation, the right opportunity all plays a part into the right shot placement. Here at High Wide & Heavy, you won’t meet a more dedicated group of men who want you to have the best whitetail hunting experience possible. It’s our incredible team of outfitters that makes us who we are and the hunters we meet along the way that share the same passion.
Cleon is the heart of the HWH operation and is living proof of the good that comes from living life to the fullest. He is our family’s foundation and helps us to maintain the tradition of classic North Texas bowhunting.
Greg is the chief of our operation. He lives for the outdoors and pushes our outfit forward every year with his commitment and passion for hunting. His fruitful management decisions can be seen all over the preserve.
Behind every good outfitter is a strong set of hands making sure everything runs smooth for hunters. You can count on Hayden to find your trophy, skin your game and provide you with the greatest hunting experience possible.
Since our preserve works with MLD permits, we have our own deer tags, so to hunt with us all you need is your Texas hunting license, even if you’ve already tagged out elsewhere. If you are coming from out of state, Texas does require you to purchase a basic non-resident license, but the tags will still come from us.
Our property consists of various food plots mixed with wooded areas and some open fields. There are several water holes and ponds that deer frequent throughout the year, providing a diverse setting and a variety of opportunities for hunters.
Being in North Texas, our weather is typically warm through mid-October, followed by cool spells that can drop temperatures into the low 30s by early November. It does get chilly in the wintertime, but our quality blinds mixed with a few layers of clothes will keep you comfortable for longer sits.
Taxidermy, game processing and the shipping of antlers or capes is not included in your hunt, but we can recommend people who offer those services if desired.
Included in your hunt is food and lodging. Our lodge features comfortable and spacious accommodations, including satellite television and WiFi. With four bedrooms (five beds) and four bathrooms, guests are welcome to bring additional non-hunters for a small fee.
A delicious home-style breakfast and dinner is served daily, and cold lunch options are provided. Coffee, soft drinks, and bottled water are available as well to all occupants. Guests are welcome to bring any other beverages of their choice.
Behind the lodge we have a beautiful back porch that provides a scenic view of hardwoods that set just below it. For some extra practice in between sits, we have both field point and broadhead archery targets on-site so hunters can remain confident when heading out to the field.
